The minimum academic qualification for appearing in JEE is a pass in the final examination of 10+2 system or its equivalent. One should not be more than 25 years of age (30 years for SC/ST) as on 1st October after admission. Admission is offered on the basis of one's choice vis-a-vis his/her All India Rank in the JEE. M. Sc. (2-year) and M. Sc. - Ph. D. (Dual Degree) Programme:
Admission is made once a year through an All India level examination known as 'Joint Admission Test to M. Sc. (JAM)'. The underlying philosophy of JAM seeks to provide a single unified national level test for admission to different post-B. Sc. programmes offered at respective IITs, to synergise the admission procedures for M. Sc. programmes in all IITs and thereby ensure a qualitative difference in the students admitted on a wider basis.

M. B. A. Programme:
IIT Kanpur recognised for its excellence in engineering and science education has made a strategic move with the introduction of the MBA programme that is slated to become the best in management education. Admission is made once a year. Advertisement is released in the middle of April. A candidate is required to take JMET Examination held in December.

M. Des. Programme:
To meet the new challenge of design - related professions, a comprehensive and formal training through a curriculum is the need of the day. There is a growing demand for specially trained graduates in the field of Design for the national and international industries. The postgraduate programme of Design at IIT Kanpur seeks to meet this requirement. Admission is made once a year through the CEED examination.

D.I.I.T. Programme:
Only candidates sponsored by recognised Industries are eligible for this programme of two semesters. The applicant must have a bachelor's degree in Engineering or Master's degree in Science.

M. Tech. Programme:

JOINT ADMISSION TEST TO M.Sc. (JAM)

The Master of Science and other post-B.Sc. programmes at the IITs
offer high quality post-graduate education in respective disciplines,
comparable to the best in the world. The current pace of advancement
of technology needs a coherent back up of basic science education and
research. The vibrant academic ambience and research infrastructure
of the IITs motivate the students to pursue R&D careers in frontier
areas of basic sciences as well as interdisciplinary areas of science
and technology.

From the Academic Session 2004-2005, Indian Institutes of Technology
have started conducting a Joint Admission Test to M.Sc. (JAM) for
admission to M.Sc. and other post-B.Sc. programmes at the IITs. The
main objective of JAM is to revive and consolidate 'Science' as a
career option for bright students from across the country and provide
them a single step opportunity for admission to some of the
postgraduate programmes offered at the IITs. In due course, JAM is
also expected to become a benchmark for normalizing undergraduate
level science education in the country.
