Programmes (Long Term Courses)
The Centre Offers
a. AICTE approved six semesters (three years) Diploma in Electronics Production and Maintenance (DEPM) to meet the requirement of industry by creating dedicated and immediate productive technicians.
b. AICTE approved four semesters (two years) M. Tech in Electronics Design and Technology [M. Tech (EDT)] to produce Electronics Design Engineers. These courses are practical oriented and are designed with an emphasis on design and project work. The quality of education is maintained by periodic review and update of syllabus considering the latest trends and needs of industry, in-depth study by the students through semester system, transparent evaluation system and flexibility being autonomy granted to the Centre by Dr. B.A.M. University, Aurangabad (M.S). The Centre enjoys the reputation of its students getting employed in reputed industries and organizations almost immediately on their completion of courses or settled as successful entrepreneur.


Master of Technology in Electronics Design & Technology [M. Tech (EDT)]

This is a four semesters (2 years) course which grooms students for a high profile career in design and development of electronic products. The course is approved by AICTE, New Delhi.

Eligibility
a) B.E. / B. Tech / B.Sc (Engineering) Degree or equivalent in Electronics /Electrical / Telecommunication / Computers / Instrumentation engineering from a recognized University with at least 55% of marks (relaxable to 50% for candidates belonging to SC / ST category). A candidate with BE / B Tech in Mechanical / Production / Industrial Engineering with exceptional aptitude and knowledge in electronics may also be considered. Those, who have appeared for engineering graduate degree and awaiting results before 30th June, 2008 are also eligible to apply.
b) The candidate should have passed the GATE examination with minimum score of 80 percentile. OR The candidate should have been serving in Academic Institution/Industry / R&D organization engaged in electronic product or system development for at least two years and should be sponsored by the employer. He should produce necessary sponsorship certificate alongwith application in the prescribed form. OR Foreign nationals having equivalent degree of a recognised university. Admission of foreign nationals is subjected to the guidelines laid down by Government of India from time to time. Foreign nationals should apply through proper channel.
c) Non – GATE candidate may also apply but their application will be considered only if GATE candidates are not available and the seats are vacant.

Intake * 18 (10 + 5 + 3)

Categories: Non-sponsored (Open/OBC/SC/ST & PD) and sponsored * Seats are reserved as per Govt. of India Rules and AICTE Approval. Intake likely to be increased in view of implementation of reservation for OBC. Competent authority's approval is awaited.


Selection
Candidates will be short listed based on the minimum eligibility criteria. The selection for admission to M. Tech (EDT) program, from the short listed candidates will be based on their performance in an written entrance test and interview to be conducted in the month of July/August. Seats are reserved for candidates belonging to reserved categories as per Government of India Rules and AICTE, New Delhi Approval.

Provisional admission will be granted on the basis of order of merit of the candidate as per the category-wise merit list, prepared on the basis of performance of candidates in written test and interview. As per admission norms, the admission process continues till * Eighteen * (18) candidates (approved intake of M. Tech course) are admitted to the M. Tech Course by operating the category-wise main (selected) list and then, the category-wise waiting list, if required. The category-wise main (selected) list and waiting list of the candidates for admission to 18th batch (2008-09) of M. Tech Course will be displayed on the Notice Board of this Centre. The date and time for operation of the waiting list shall also be declared alongwith the list of selected candidates. All the wait listed candidates should make themselves available at the time of operation of the waiting list otherwise their claim shall be forfeited. The wait listed candidates, available at the time of operation of the waiting list, shall be provisionally admitted as per the merit of the category-wise waiting list. The selected main and waiting list candidates are required to register on the day as notified alongwith the list displayed by making payment as mentioned above, otherwise their claim shall be forfeited. Admission process of the M. Tech Course is completed when the * Eighteen * (18) candidates are provisionally admitted and registered or a time limit decided by the competent authority, whichever is earlier.

The GATE candidates will be considered first as per the above process. Non-GATE candidates will be considered against the category wise vacancies as per the above process, if GATE candidates are not available.

Scholarship
Non-sponsored students, admitted to the M Tech (EDT) course, provided they have passed the GATE examination, are eligible for the scholarship of Rs. 5000/- per month, subject to sanction and receipt of the said amount from AICTE New Delhi. Since academic session 2002-03, the Institute is applying and receiving Grant-in-Aid for Scholarship @ Rs 5000/- per month per Gate passed & nonsponsored student from AICTE, New Delhi, the scholarship amount shall be reimbursed to the students on the receipt of the grant from AICTE, New Delhi by the institute. The award of scholarship and its continuation is subject to regular attendance, satisfactory progress, good conduct and abiding by the rules of the Institute. Sponsored or Non-Gate students are not entitled for the said scholarship. The tuition fee is exempted for SC/ST candidates only, subject to his/her applying for the same and fulfilling the conditions.

It is obligatory for every student, granted admission to M. Tech (EDT) and awarded scholarship, to undertake at least 10 hours per week of work related to teaching and for research activities as assigned to him / her.

Assistance in Placement
The placement wing of the Centre offers all assistance to the students interested in securing an appropriate employment. The students of this course have been well received by the Industries.


Entrance Test for M. Tech (EDT)
The entrance written test for admission to first year of M. Tech (EDT) of DOEACC Centre (formerly CEDTI), Aurangabad will be to test the following:
1. Basic aptitude of the candidate towards the Design and Technology.
2. Knowledge of the candidate in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science / IT and allied subjects.

The entrance written test will be of 1½ hours duration and will be of objective type, wherein the candidate is provided multiple choice answers and he/she is required to mark the correct answer in the same sheet, provided to him/her. In addition to above, the test may also have short answer subjective type of questions and fill in the blanks. The candidates are required to bring Pen, HB Pencil, Sharpner and Eraser. Candidates are not allowed to take the Question/Answer booklet outside the examination hall.
• TEST WILL BE IN ENGLISH MEDIUM ONLY.
• CALCULATORS, MOBILE, DIGITAL DIARY, POCKET PCs, MOBILE PHONE, LOG BOOKS ARE NOT ALLOWED IN THE EXAMINATION HALL.
• Interview will be conducted for the candidates, short listed basis of on the performance in written test.


DIPLOMA IN ELECTRONICS PRODUCTION AND MAINTENANCE (DEPM)

This is a three years (Six Semesters) course which grooms students for a career as Production/Maintenance Supervisor or Design Assistant in Electronics or allied industry or entrepreneur. The course is approved by AICTE, New Delhi and Board of Technical Education, Maharashtra.

Eligibility
Xth standard passed from a recognized Board with a minimum average score of 50% (relaxable to 45% for candidates belonging to SC/ST category only) in Mathematics and Science subjects. Those who have appeared for the Xth standard examination and awaiting results before June 30, 2008 are also eligible to apply.

Age Limit
The candidate's age should not be less than 15 years and more than 19 years as on July 01, 2008. The relaxation in upper age limit is two (2) years for SC & ST candidates and five (5) years for person with Disabilities (PD), candidates.

Intake: 60 (30 + 16 + 09 + 05)

Category: Open/OBC/SC/ST, and PD
Seats are reserved as per Govt. of India Rules and AICTE Approval.

Selection

The wait listed candidates, available at the time of operation of the waiting list, shall be provisionally admitted as per the merit of the category-wise waiting list. The selected main and waiting list candidates are required to register on the day as notified alongwith the list displayed by making payment as mentioned above, otherwise their claim shall be forfeited. Admission process of the DEPM Course is completed when the sixty (60) candidates are provisionally admitted and registered or a time limit decided by the competent authority, which ever is earlier.

Scholarship
The institute encourages and provides assistance to all the students, particularly the reserved category, to apply for the Central / State Govt. scholarship for reimbursement of tuition fee and maintenance allowance as per State Govt. rules. The tuition fee is exempted for SC/ST candidates only, subject to his/her applying for the same and fulfilling the conditions.


Entrance Test for DEPM
The entrance written test for admission to first year of Diploma in Electronics Production and Maintenance (DEPM) will be to test the candidate's basic knowledge in Science (Physics & Chemistry) & Mathematics subjects i.e. a candidate will be tested for his/her aptitude towards the engineering curriculum as envisaged by the Centre.

Reservation :
As per Government of India's Policy, there is a reservation for persons, belonging to socially and educationally backward classes and persons with Disabilities (Physically Handicapped Persons) in education. All reservations are not of the same nature. There are two types of reservations, which May, for the sake of convenience, be referred to as "Vertical Reservations" and "Horizontal Reservations". The reservations in favor of Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes (OBCs), made under article 16 (4), may be called vertical reservations whereas reservations in favour of physically handicapped, made under clause (1) of Article 16, can be referred as horizontal reservations, horizontal reservations cut across the vertical reservations, called as "interlocking reservation".


Percentage of Reservation :
As per Government of India Rules, there is a reservation of 27% of seats for the OBCs, 15% of seats for the SCs and 7.5% of seats for the STs in admission to various courses. Further there is a reservation of at least 3% of seats for Persons with Disabilities (PDs) as per section 39 of the Persons with Disabilities (Equal opportunities, Protection of Rights and Full Participation) Act, 1995. Since the reservation for PDs the horizontal reservations is interlocking reservations, the candidate selected against this quota will be placed in the appropriate category, that is, if the candidate belongs to SC/ST category. He/She will be placed in that quota by making necessary adjustments. Similarly if the candidate belongs to General/Open category, he/she will be placed in that category/quota by making necessary adjustment.

With regard to the process of implementation of reservation for the OBCs, as per the directives of Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) Govt. of India for Central Educational Institutions (CEIs) vide OM NO. 1-1/2005-U.1A/847 dated 20th April, 2008, it should be ensured that the seats available in the unreserved category are not reduced, while implementing the reservation for the OBCs and bear in mind that there may be a proportionate increase in the seats for the categories of SCs and STs also. This necessitates increase in seats/intake, particularly for PG Engineering courses. The competent authority had been approached in this regard. The reply is awaited. The reservation for the OBCs shall be implemented accordingly.

Relaxation in Age
The relaxation in upper age limit is two (2) years for SC/ST candidates and five (5) years for Persons with Disabilities (PD) candidates.

Relaxation in Qualifying Marks :
The relaxation in qualifying marks is 5% for SC & ST candidates only.

Relaxation in cost of Prospectus cum Application Form:
The relaxation in cost of Prospectus cum Application Form is Rs 100/- for DEPM Course and Rs. 200/- for M. Tech. Course for SC, ST, & PD Candidates.

Guidelines for Filling the Application Form
1. The candidates are requested to fill-in the application form carefully in block letters. Use Blue ink preferably.
2. Write the course applying for at Sr. No. 1.
3. Write all the details asked in the Admit Card and the Acknowledgement Slip.
4. Signature of Parent is must for all candidates applying for DEPM course.
5. The Caste Certificate as per the enclosed format is required to be filled-in in case of reserved category candidates (OBC/SC/ST) or an attested photocopy of the caste certificate issued by the competent authority, as mentioned therein, should be enclosed.
6. 10th Standard (SSC) mark sheet or certificate shall only be recognized as the proof for date of birth. No other certificate / document shall be considered.
7. A sponsorship letter is to be submitted as per the format enclosed in case of sponsored candidate for M Tech. course.
8. A studentship certificate is to be submitted as per the format enclosed in case of candidate appearing in their final year of graduation or Xth class as the case be and who is applying for M. Tech. / DEPM course.
9. The candidates are required to produce their original certificates at the time of interview.
10. Selected candidates will have to submit all original certificates at the time of registration for the course.
11. Selected candidates are required to pay the fees as mentioned in the prospectus / call letter immediately on declaration on the selected list at the time of registration otherwise the claim of the candidate for the seat will be null & void (forfeited).

Advertisement for SRF / JRF / Project Assistant

Applications are invited for filling up post of Senior Research Fellow / Junior Research Fellow / Project Assistant for the project entitled "Laser Nitriding and Carburization of Metals and Steels and their studies by Photoelectrons on INDUS-I".

Indian Institute of Science Education & Research (IISER-Kolkata) is set up by the Government of India at par with IITs and IISc. The main aim of the institute is to develop high quality research education in basic sciences, both experimental and theoretical, in the form of :

+ An integrated 5 years Master's curriculum following Class XII of our school system (or its equivalent)

+ Post B.Sc. integrated Ph.D. Curriculum (expected to start from 2009), and

+ A full Ph.D. Programme after M.Sc. or equivalent degree

Applications are invited from bright young 1st class M.Sc./ M.S candidates with CSIR-UGC NET including NET (LS) for Ph.D. programme at IISER, which may be carried out in collaboration with neighbouring institutes, universities, etc., until the Institute gets its own sprawling campus at Haringhata, Kalyani.

ICMR - JUNIOR RESEARCH FELLOWSHIPS

ICMR JRF Examination is the first step in the process of admission to the Ph.D/    Research Programme through council's support. Test for ICMR JRF fellowship are conducted at the five centres viz. Chandigarh, Chennai, Delhi, Kolkata and Mumbai  once a year.  The award of JRF is made on merit basis by holding an entrance examination after issuing a countrywide admission notice.  The admission notice is published in leading English Newspapers of India usually during March/April and  also on the website. The entrance examination is usually held in the first/second week of July.

ICMR holds a national level examination for determining the eligibility of Indian National candidates for the award of Junior Research Fellowships (JRF) through Indian Council of Medical Research. The award of Junior Research Fellowship to the successful eligible candidates will depend on their finding placement in a medical college / hospital / university / national laboratory / institution of higher learning and research as applicable.

        I.            A total of 150 Fellowships would be awarded. 120 Fellowships would be awarded for work in the field of biomedical sciences with emphasis on Life Sciences (like microbiology, physiology, molecular biology, genetics, human biology, bioinformatics, biotechnology, biochemistry, biophysics, immunology, zoology, Environment Science, botany, veterinary sciences, bio-informatics etc.). Thirty Fellowships would be awarded for work with emphasis on Social sciences like psychology, sociology, home science, statistics, anthropology and social work. 

(I-i) Two separate merit lists, one comprising the candidates qualifying for life sciences and the second for those candidates qualifying for social sciences, will be made on the basis of their performance in the above test.

(I-ii) The candidates selected for the JRF programme of ICMR would be permitted to enroll themselves for the Ph.D. programme of any University recognised by the UGC/MCI. However, the JRF programme would not have any connection with the Ph.D. programme. The validity of fellowship awarded to a candidate will be six months.

  1. Another 100 candidates would be selected for consideration for positions of JRF under various research schemes of ICMR (subject to fulfilling the conditions for appointment under the schemes) for the duration of that scheme. These JRFs would also be permitted to complete Ph.D. while working in the scheme, if enrolled.  The validity of result will be two years for placement in ICMR funded projects.
  1. SC/ST/OBC/Physically Handicapped (PH) applicants will be given such special consideration as per policy guidelines.
    Candidates qualifying for the award of JRF will receive fellowship from ICMR.
  1. Duration and Emoluments:

a.       The existing value of the fellowship is at present Rs. 8000/- (Rupees Eight thousand only)  Per  month. It will be revised from time to time as decided by the ICMR.
 

b.      The duration of fellowship will initially be limited till three years carrying a monthly stipend of Rs. 8000/- and an annual contingency grant up to Rs. 7,500/- per annum. The progress of research work would be evaluated annually through annual progress reports. On completion of two years as JRF the stipend of a fellow may be increased to Rs. 9,000/- p.m. for 3rd year on the basis of assessment of candidate's research progress / achievements. Upon such a recommendation, the fellow will be called SRF. In the event of the Committee not recommending upgradation, the fellow will continue as JRF with a stipend of Rs. 8000/- per month for the 3rd year or his/her fellowship may be terminated depending on the decision of the Committee. The duration as SRF may be for a maximum duration of 3 years. Thus, the total tenure as JRF plus SRF shall not exceed 5 (five) years.

     V.            The successful candidates would be notified by post and notice published in Employment  Newspaper. The list also would be available on the ICMR website.
Joining time
: Selected candidates must join their respective course on the prescribed date as indicated in their admission letter.  The selection of those who fail to join by the specified date shall automatically stand cancelled.

               Procedure for applying

 Before applying, candidates are advised to go through the admission notice published in the advertisement in various Newspapers and the instructions given therein carefully.  Fill in the application form according to the instructions given in this prospectus and the admission notice.  Incomplete applications will not be considered and no correspondence will be entertained.

Educational Qualification:

M.Sc./M.A. or equivalent degree with minimum 55% marks for General/OBC Candidates and 50% for the SC/ST & physically handicapped candidates in the subjects mentioned under the head method of selection.               

Age Limit

The age limit for admission to the eligibility test is 28 years (upper age limit relaxable upto 5 years in case of candidates belonging to SC/ST, physically handicapped (PH) and female candidates, 3 years in the case of OBC category.

Method of selection

Scheme of Test

            The test will consist of one paper of 2 hours duration. The paper will consist of 2 Sections. The Aptitude Section (Section A) will have 50 questions on (i) scientific phenomenon in everyday life; (ii) general knowledge in sciences; and (iii) common statistics. All these questions would be compulsory with each question carrying 1 mark. The subject Specific Section (Section B & C) would pertain to (B) Life Sciences and (C) Social Science. The candidate may attempt questions in either of the two areas. Each area of section B & C would have 100 questions and the candidate may attempt any 75 questions in the predesigned area of Section B or C. Candidates are required to indicate the option for Section B or C in the application form too.

Each question carries one mark. Negative marking @ 0.25 will be made for each of the wrong answer. The questions in both the sections would appear in English only.

            The final result will be based on aggregate of 55 % marks obtained in both the sections for General category and OBC and 50% for SC/ST and physically handicapped.

            The test will be held in the following streams: (1) Aptitude test (common for all) (2) Life Sciences (3) Social Sciences. Subjects covered under Life Sciencesinclude microbiology, physiology, molecular biology, genetics, human nutrition, human biology, biotechnology, biochemistry, biophysics, immunology, zoology, botany, veterinary science and bio-informatics. Monitoring Mechanism: The fellow shall submit annual reports for 1st year and annual report thereafter as per the prescribed standard proforma. The first annual report should be submitted after 10 months from the date of commencement of the fellowship (through the Guide along with his appraisal) giving complete factual details of the research work done. The BharathiarUniversity was established by the Government of Tamil Nadu in the Year 1982, under the Bharathiar University Act I of 1981 (Tamil Nadu University Act I of 1982). II. 1. M.Phil. Programme
Eligibility
1. Candidates with Master's Degree of Bharathiar University in the concerned or related discipline or any other qualification recognized as equivalent thereto by the Syndicate of Bharathiar University. All candidates should have passed two year Post Graduate degree course after 3-year Bachelor's degree course and Higher Secondary course of 2-year duration after 10-year SSLC or one year Pre-degree after 11-year S.S.L.C.
Further candidates who have passed the PG degraee examination with less than 17 years of total duration of study are not eligible for admission to M.Phil. programme.
a) Candidates belonging to the following categories are eligible to register for M.Phil (Full-Time) programme.
i) Candidates with 55% of marks and above in the Master's degree in the concerned or related discipline; for SC/ST candidates, 50% of marks in PG Course is sufficient.
ii) Candidates with 55% ( 5% relaxation for SC/ST candidates in the minimum eligibility marks) of marks and above in the Master's degree the concerned or related discipline and working as Full – Time Research Assistants in timebound Research schemes or one year duration or more, in University Departments, Research Departments of Affiliated Colleges / Recognized Research Institutions.

b) Candidates belonging to the following categories are eligible to register for M.Phil. (Part-Time) programme.
i) Any person employed in any concern / organization / institution situated within the jurisdiction of the State of Tamilnadu or Reasearch Institutions situated outside the State of Tamilnadu recognized by Bharathiar University with a minimum of 55% of Marks in the Master's Degree. Such candidates shall produce a No Objection Certificate from the Employer or Head of the Institution (in case of Educational Institutions)
ii) All teachers working in colleges affiliated to BharathiarUniversity with qualification approval are eligible.
iii) Candidates working in college affiliated to Universities other than BharathairUniversity have to produce a No Objection Certificate from the Head of the Institution / University.

2. Duration
M.Phil. : Full – time
The duration of the M.Phil. Full-Time programme shall extend over a period of one academic year (twelve months) consisting of two semesters commencing from September 1st.

M.Phil. : Part – time
The duration of the M.Phil. Part-time programme shall extend over a period of two academic years commencing from 1st September.

The maximum period for completion of the M.Phil.programme is two years in the case Full – time candidates, and three years in the case of Part-Time candidates.

3. Course of Study
The course of study for the M.Phil. degreeprogramme shall consist of three written paperps under Part I and a Dissertation under Part II of the Programme.

(i) Theory Papers (under Part I)
Paper I Teaching Techniques / Pedagogical Methods Paper II Research Methodology and Trends in the concerned discipline Paper III Special Paper (Pertaining to the area of specialization chosen by the Candidate under a guide) The Part I examinations shall be conducted during February/March and August/ September every year.

(ii) Dissertation (under Part II)
Candidates shall be required to choose a research problem in his/her chosen area of research and submit a dissertation incorporating the results of his /her investigation, carriedout under the supervision of a recognized supervisor

4. Registration
All Candidates who are admitted into the M.Phil. programme (Full-Time or Part-Time) will be registered to do research in a particular topic under the supervision of a recognized supervisor.
Candidates shall be registered for M.Phil. programme during only one session in a year, commencing on the first day of September, subject to the condition that the candidate so registered, shall be permitted to appear for Part I examination only after completing the minimum period of six months, in the case of full-time registration and twelve months, in the case of part-time registration.

A candidate applying for registration shall do so, specifying the broad field of research, which shall normally be one related to the field of specialization chosen in his/her PG degree.

5. Guidance :
Every candidate admitted into the M.Phil./ Ph.D. Research programme shall be registered under a qualified and recognized guide in the Department / Institution, where the candidate is admitted for the research programme. The research guide shall guide the candidates, throughout his/her research programme and monitor his / her progress.

A guide recognized for Ph.D. programme can guide at any point of time not more than 8 Ph.D. candidates & 4 M.Phil. candidates and a guide recognized for M.Phil. programme can guide at any point of time not more than 4 M.Phil. Candidates.

6.Procedure for Securing Admission to Research Programmes
Candidates desirous of seeking admission to the above said Research Programmes offered in the University Departments, Affiliated Colleges and Recognised Research Institutions should apply for admission in the prescribed application form, to be obtained from the Registrar, Bharathiar University, Coimbatore – 641 046 on payment of Rs.250/- for M.Phil and Rs. 300/- for Ph.D. in the form of a Bank of India Challan credited to the General Fund Accounts of Bharathiar University or a Demand Draft on a Nationalised Bank drawn in favour of the Registrar, Bharathiar University, Payable at Coimbatore, with a requisition indicating clearly, the Programme (M.Phil. or Ph.D.,) for which the application is required.

The candidates before applying are advised to ascertain the availability of vacancies in the concerned Departments / Colleges or with the Guide, where the candidates proposes to register for the Research Programme. Candidates shall apply for the M.Phil. / Ph.D. programme only after qualifying for their Post-graduate degree, before the last date, failing which their applications will be rejected.

7. How to Apply
The Application consists of two copies:
First Copy: To be submitted by the candidates to the University. (Incase of downloaded application along with the cost of application and Registration Fee of Rs. 250 and 300/- for M.Phil. and Ph.D. respectively).

Second Copy: To be sent by the candidates to the Colleges / University department concerned along with the Xerox copy of the remittance proof of payment of the cost of application and Registration Fee. The College shall make use of the second copy of the application for selecting the candidates. HereafterUniversity will not send applications to the concerned colleges / Departments.

THE APPLICATION SHALL BE SENT TO THE COLLEGES / UNIVERSITY DEPARTMENTS WHERE THE CANDIDATE SEEKS ADMISSION.
The applications should be accompanied by properly attested Photo Copies of the following certificates:
1. Mark / Grade Certificate of the qualifying Post Graduate (PG) course.
2. Provisional / Degree Certificates of the under Graduate (UG) and Post- Graduate Courses. (PG)
3. Transfer and Conduct Certificate (issued by the Institution last studied)
4. Community Certificate
5. Service Certificate issued by the Employer (in the case of candidates applying for part-time Programme, specifying the total duration of the service put in by the candidates in their organization)
6. No objection Certificate issued by the Head of the Institution / Employer (in the case of candidates applying for part-time Programme)
7. Qualification approval letter issued by this University (in the case of teacher candidates, working in Unaided Colleges / Unaided Departments in the aided colleges, applying for part-time Programme).

The applications submitted by candidates for getting admission into a particular Institution / College cannot be transferred to another Institution / College. If the candidate wishes to apply for admission in more than one College / Department, he / She shall submit separate applications for each College / Department.

The applications submitted for admission to Ph.D. programme cannot be transferred to M.Phil. Course and Vice-versa. Once the application submitted to the University / Colleges for a particular session shall not be considered for subsequent session(s).

Incase, the programme to which applied is not offered in the concerned Institution, the application will be rejected.

8. Selection Procedure
The following will be the Selection Procedure:
1. The eligible candidates will be ranked according to the marks secured in the qualifying examinations and personal interview conducted to assess the aptitude of the candidate for research and his/her academic competence and subject to satisfying the eligibility conditions.
2. The selection committee shall consist of the HOD and eligible guides of the faculty.
3. After the students have been admitted the guides be allotted in the eligible guides meeting. The same be intimated and a copy be sent to the Registrar, along with the waiting list in the specified proforma.
4. The University shall verify the originals submitted by the candidates and the colleges shall be informed to bring the same for verification on a particular date.
5. The College and departments should also notify the existing vacancies in their common notice board and department notice boards and publish the same in the website so as to enable the students to apply for the disciplines of their choice.
6. Depending on the number of vacancies the candidates will be selected by following the communal reservations as prescribed by the Government of Tamilnadu i.e.
a. 31% for Open Competition
b. 30% for Backward Classes within this 3.5% for Muslims and 3.5% for Christians.
c. 20% for Most Backward Classes and Denotified, tribes.
d. 18% for Scheduled Castes and 1% for Scheduled Tribes.

The candidates will be selected for admission to the Research Programme based on their academic performance conducted to assess the aptitude of the candidate for research and his/her academic competence subject to satisfying the eligibility conditions.

The candidates selected for admission to the M.Phil./Ph.D. programmes in the University Departments shall be required to submit the Original transfer certificate and conduct certificate, issued by the Institution last studied, statements of marks and Provisional/Degree certificates of Post Graduate and M.Phil. Degree Courses. The certificates once surrendered will not be returned to the candidates till the completion of the research programme. Hence, the candidates are advised to retain with them sufficient number of attested photocopies of the certificates, before surrendering the originals.

III. Ph.D. Programme
1. Eligibility
For purposes of admission to the Ph.D. Programme, a candidate should have obtained a Master's Degree with a minimum of 55% (5% relaxation for SC/ST candidates in the minimum eligibility) marks in the qualifying examinations (10+2+3+2 system) or Teachers working in Colleges affiliated to BharathiarUniversity.

Admission for Ph.D. programme can be made four times in a year, i.e., January, April, July and October. Candidates should submit their applications on or before first working day of quarter, viz January, April, July and October.

2. REGISTRATION FOR THE Ph.D. PROGRAMME
A candidate who has qualified for the Master's Degree in the faculties of Arts, Sciences, Fine Arts, Commerce, Education, Social Science of this University or equivalent thereto is eligible to register for the Full- Time /Part-Time Ph.D. programme.

. Full-Time
Full-Time (with or without stipend or fellowship) / Research fellows / Research Assistants/Technical Assistants and project Assistants appointed in the research projects funded by recognized agencies / Government are also eligible to register for Ph.D. on a fulltime basis in the same department provided they satisfy the eligibility criteria laid in.
. Part-Time (teacher or non-teacher) The candidates possessing any one of the above qualifications and falling under any of the following categories are eligible to register for Ph.D. Part-time programme.

. "A teacher with a minimum two years of experience working in the Department of the University or of an affiliated College of this University / Higher Secondary School / High School / Polytechnic / Colleges affiliated to other universities (in subjects other than Engineering, Medicine, Law and Agriculture within the territorial Jurisdiction of this university)."
. Any Chartered Accountant / cost Accountant / Company Secretary and other professionals with minimum period of three years of experience after obtaining their professional qualification is eligible for Ph.D. registration. The subject for registration may be the same as that of the professional qualifications in the case of ACA / AICWA / ACS. The guides may be from the department of Commerce / Management Studies / Economics and concerned subjects.
For candidate other than a teacher candidate, any permanent staff in a Government Office / Private / Public Ltd. Company, a recognized factory / institution / research institution / business with a minimum period of three years of administrative experience in the relevant job after obtaining the Master's degree with a minimum of 50% of marks in the qualifying examination (staff includes Board of Directors, Proprietor and Partner) are eligible for Ph.D. registration in the relevant discipline.

. Recognized factory means an industrial establishment and regulated by the factories Act.
. Recognized institution means any institution registered with the Registrar of Societies and has been duly audited by a recognized auditor for the last three years from the date of application and duly supported by an audit certificate.
. Recognized business means a business organization duly registered with commercial Tax Department and three years standing in their business.
. Private / Public Ltd. Company registered under the Companies Act.

UNDER INDEPENDENT Ph.D. RESEARCH PROGRAMME
Teachers with M.Phil.or equivalent qualification, working in the Departments of this University or in colleges affiliated to this University with atleast four years of teaching / research experience after obtaining M.Phil. degree, may register for Ph.D. without a guide, as part-time scholars.

However, those registered under this category of independent registration, can opt to work under a recognized guide at any stage after registration, with the prior permission of the University and on payment of a 'status change fee'.

HOSTEL FEE:
Caution Deposit (Subject to change) : Rs.7,200/- (Refundable). Room rent Rs.250/-per month.
Mess, Welfare, Power, Water and Miscellaneous charges are on dividing basis.

SCHOLARSHIPS / FELLOWSHIPS :
A number of scholarships are available for BC, MBC, SC / ST candidates admitted to the M.Phil. / Ph.D. full-time programmes in the University Departments.

The Centre for Atmospheric Sciences is starting a new 2-year M.Tech. Programme in "Atmospheric-Oceanic Science & Technology" from July 2008. This programme is sponsored by the Ministry of Earth Sciences and will focus on "Numerical Dynamical Models for Weather Prediction, Pollutant Dispersal, Climate and Climate Change Studies". Candidates with a valid GATE score (minimum 300 for General/OBC and 200 for SC/ST/PD) should apply if they satisfy the following eligibility criteria

Applications are invited for admission to M.Phil. Degree courses (Full-Time/Part-Time) in the following Colleges affiliated to this University, for the year 2008-2009.

Eligibility Condition for Admission :

Full Time (One year) :

A Master's degree in the concerned subject of the University of Madras or any other University recognized by the Syndicate as equivalent thereto, provided that those who have qualified for the Master's degree prior to 1st January 1991 must have secured a minimum of 50 percent of marks and those who have qualified for the master's degree on or after 1st January 1991 must have secured a minimum of 55 percent of marks. For SC/ST, Physically Handicapped & Visually Challenged candidates who have qualified on or after 1st January 1991 a concession of 5 percent of marks shall be given in the minimum eligibility marks.

Part Time (Two years) :

(i) Teachers working in the University departments / (ii) teachers working in Affiliated colleges whosequalifications are approved by the University / (iii) Non-teacher candidates are eligible to do M.Phil Parttime degree course/(iv) teachers of Polytechnics approved by the Director of the Technical Education or teachers of Higher secondary and High schools approved either by State Board or Central Board of Secondary Education or Educational Instructors of IAF (within the Madras University area) are eligible for Part time M.Phil for admission, provided if they have secured 55% of marks in their Master's degree obtained on or after 1.1.91 and no minimum marks is prescribed in their Master's degree obtained prior to 1.1.91. For SC/ST, Physically Handicapped & Visually Challenged candidates who have qualified on or after 1st January 1991 a concession of 5 percent of marks shall be given in the minimum eligibility marks.

Conditions for Selection

1. There will be an entrance examination for admission to Full time M.Phil. course conducted by the respective colleges. There will be no entrance examination for Part Time M.Phil. Degree Selection.
2. The Entrance Test will be held after the publication of P.G. Results and the candidates should have to take the examination only in the subject for which he/she has applied for admission and not in the qualifying subject.
3. The Entrance Test will be for 50 marks. The remaining 50 marks is for the qualifying examination in the subject concerned.

In order to ensure the standards of teaching in Higher Secondary Course, the Government have decided to conduct the State Level Eligibility Test for the candidates to be selected as Higher Secondary School Teachers and Non-Vocational Teachers. A pass in the State Eligibility Test (SET) is stipulated as a mandatory qualification for appointment as Higher Secondary School Teachers as per the Special Rules in force. As per G.O.(Ms)No.92/2008/Gl.Edn. dated 16/05/2008 the Government have entrusted the Director, LBS Centre for Science and Technology, Thiruvananthapuram with the conduct of the SET 2008 on the basis of a syllabi approved by the Committee constituted for the purpose. Candidates are requested to go through the Prospectus carefully to get themselves acquainted with the rules and regulations before the applications are filled up and forwarded to the Director, LBS Centre for Science and Technology, Thiruvananthapuram for further necessary action in this regard.2. Mode of Registration for the SET 2.1 Candidates intending to register for the State Eligibility Test are required to pay the fee for the Test in advance and obtain the prescribed Application form for registration. The rates of fee for the Test shall be Rs.500/- for General candidates and Rs.250/- for SC/ST candidates. The mode of payment shall be only by Demand Drafts drawn from a Nationalized Bank in India in favour of the Director, LBS Centre payable at Thiruvananthapuram. Cash/Money Order/Cheque will not be accepted. Conditions of Eligibility

1 Those who have acquired Masters Degree in the concerned subject in II Class with not less than 50% marks and B.Ed. Degree in any discipline from any one of the Universities in Kerala or have acquired these qualifications from any other University recognized as equivalent there to are eligible to apply for the SET 2008 with certain exceptions as mentioned in the relevant paragraphs.

2 For Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Botany and Zoology those having Second Class MSc.Ed Degree in the concerned subject with not less than 50% marks from one of the Regional Institutes of Education sponsored by NCERT will be eligible to apply. For Botany and Zoology those having Second Class MSc.Ed Degree in Life Science (with not less than 50% marks) from one of the Regional Institutes of Education are also eligible.

3 For the subjects Anthropology, Commerce, French, Gandhian Studies, Geology,

German, Home Science, Journalism, Latin, Music, Russian, Social Work, Sociology,

Statistics, Syriac, Philosophy and Psychology candidates need not possess

BEd. Degree for appearing for the State Eligibility Test.

4 Those who have acquired II class Masters Degree in Communicative English with not

less than 50% marks and having BEd. Are eligible to appear for SET in English. 5.5 Candidates who have acquired Diploma in Hindi Teaching but do not posses B.Ed. Degree are eligible to apply for SET in accordance with the exemption clause provided in the Special Rules.

5.5(a) Training qualifications other than LTTC and DHT can not be equivated to B.Ed in Hindi

until special rules are amended to that effect.

5(b) Candidates who have acquired B.Ed Degree in Hindi conducted by the Dakshin Bharatha

Hindi Prachar Sabha are exempted from the requirement of producing the equivalency certificate as the degree has been recognized by the Universities in Kerala.

6 Qualifications acquired through Correspondence Course / Open Universities which are not recognized by any one of the Universities in Kerala will not be accepted. In such cases the candidate should obtain and furnish Certificates of Recognition and Equivalency from any one of the Universities in Kerala along with the application and in the absence of these certificates the applications will be rejected summarily.

7 Those who have acquired qualifications from Universities outside the State should also obtain and furnish Certificates of Equivalency or Recognition issued by any one of the Universities in Kerala. In the absence of these certificates the applications will be rejected summarily.

5.8 Candidates should have acquired the minimum prescribed academic eligibility conditions at the time when the applications are submitted (on or before 15.07.2008) and the copies of supporting evidences of the same should be furnished along with the applications itself, in the absence of which the application will be rejected. 5.9 Candidates admitted in the year 2007 for B.Ed courses will be permitted to appear for the State Eligibility Test 2008. Candidates appearing for PG final year / Final semester Examinations in the academic year 2007- 2008 will also be permitted to appear for SET 2008. The SET certificates of such candidates will be issued only if they qualify the PG/B.Ed examinations in that chance itself. The B.Ed candidates shall produce the pass certificates and PG candidates shall produce both the pass certificates and mark lists for proving their eligibility.

5.10 For the subject Latin, candidates who have passed their degree examination in any

discipline from any one of the Universities in Kerala or from any other university recognized as equivalent thereto with Latin as their Second Language under Part II with not less than 50% marks for that Part are also eligible to appear for the Test, provided such candidates have acquired II Class Masters Degree with not less than 50 % marks in any discipline.
