Eligibility
: MD / MS / Diplomas:

Candidates who have qualified for the M.B.B.S Degree of the Madras University or any other University recognised as equivalent by the Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University and the Indian Medical Council and have completed their compulsory rotating residential internship and obtained full registration before 15/05/2010 are eligible to apply for the postgraduate diploma and degree courses.

Candidates who have qualified for a postgraduate diploma may also apply for the postgraduate degree (MS/MD) course in the same subject. Post Diploma candidates with a diploma in the same subject need to undergo 2 years of training for the degree.

Note:

Those who complete a DCP will not have this benefit for MD Pathology.
Candidates currently pursuing a postgraduate training programme and who complete the same by the 15th of May 2010 only will be eligible to apply.

Residency in Medical Physics:

MSc degree in Medical Physics or a Post-graduate diploma in Hospital Physics (Dip R.P) from BARC, Mumbai.
Application procedure: Application forms can be accessed on-line from the Christian Medical College website http://home.cmcvellore.ac.in/admissions and submitted with a basic administrative fee of Rs.500/-.

Application forms are also available by post from the Office of the Registrar on payment of Rs.500/-. To get this form, pay as indicated below and send the DD or the original Challan to: Office of the Registrar, CMC, Thorapadi PO, Vellore 632002. State your full postal address with Pin-code. Please also mention your telephone number and email address if available. No additional money, stamps or envelopes are required.

Candidates applying from abroad (other than SAARC countries) should send a Demand Draft for Fifty US Dollars or its equivalent.

Eligibility: Minimum Educational Qualifications for Ph.D:

For Regular (full time) Research Scholars:

Ph.D. in Engineering:

a) Candidates with a Master's degree in Engineering/ Technology with a good academic record or a Master's degree by Research in Engineering/ Technology with a good academic record.

b) Candidates with Master's degree in Sciences with a good academic record and of exceptional merit where eligible, for the relevant Engineering discipline and with a valid GATE score or UGC/CSIR NET/NBHM or equivalent qualification in the relevant area tenable for the year of registration.

In the case of candidates with more than 5 years relevant experience after the Master's degree, the requirement of a test score may be waived by the Selection Committee.

c) Candidates who have qualified for the award of Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Technology with exceptionally good academic record in an eligible discipline will be considered for direct admission to Ph.D. Programme as a regular full time scholar subject to the following conditions:

• a B.Tech degree holder of an IIT with a minimum CGPA of 8.0 on a 10 point scale or with a valid GATE score.

• a Bachelor's degree holder in Engineering/ Technology from any other University should be among the top 10 rank holders in the University and having a valid GATE score.

• a Bachelor's degree holder in Engineering/ Technology from a reputed R & D organisation and having a proven research record.

Ph.D. in Sciences:

a) Master's degree in Sciences with a good academic record and having a valid GATE score or UGC/CSIR NET/NBHM or equivalent qualification tenable for the current year in the relevant area.

b) Master's degree in Engineering/Technology where eligible with a good academic record.

c) B.Tech degree holder of an IIT where eligible with a minimum of CGPA of 8.0 on a 10.0 point scale or with a valid GATE Score.

Ph.D. in Humanities and Social Sciences:

Master's degree in an eligible discipline with a good academic record or equivalent and having a valid GATE score or UGC/CSIR NET/NBHM or equivalent qualification tenable for the current year in the relevant area.

Ph.D in Management:

a) Candidates with a Master's degree in Engineering/ Technology with a good academic record or

a Master's degree by Research in Engineering/ Technology with a good academic record.

b) Master's degree in an eligible discipline with a good academic record and qualification in JMET/CAT/AIMA/GATE/UGC-NET JRF or Lectureship or equivalent.

Candidates with at least 5 years managerial experience in lieu of the qualifying test are also eligible.

For Institute staff members / Research Scholars under QIP / Research Scholars under External Registration / Research Scholars working on part-time basis:

For Research Scholars in the above categories, the minimum educational qualifications are the same as prescribed for Regular (full time) Research Scholars in Programme in the respective categories.

However, valid GATE score or CSIR/UGC NET/ NBHM/ JMET/ CAT/ AIMA/ JRF or Lectureship or equivalent qualification as applicable for regular (full time) research scholars may not be required in these cases.

Minimum Educational Qualifications for M.S:

For Regular (full time) Research Scholars:

M.S. in Engineering/ Entrepreneurship/ Management:

a) Candidates with a Bachelor's degree in Engineering / Technology with valid GATE score or a Master's degree in appropriate Sciences Management/ Humanities and Social Sciences where eligible with a good academic record and a valid GATE score or CSIR/UGC NET/ NBHM/ JMET/CAT/AIMA or equivalent qualification tenable for the current year in the relevant areas.

b) Candidates having Associate Membership of the following professional bodies will also be eligible for admission to the M.S. programme of their parent discipline provided they have a valid GATE score and have passed both part A and part B of the Membership examinations with a good academic record.

The Institution of Engineers (India) (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical and Electronics, Electronics and Communications), the Aeronautical society of India, the Indian Institute of Metals, the Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers, the Institute of Electronics and Tele-communication Engineering and other professional bodies approved by the Senate from time to time.

For Institute staff members/Research Scholars under External Registration / Research scholars working on part-time basis:

Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Technology or a Master's degree in appropriate Sciences/ Management/ Humanities and Social Sciences where eligible with a good academic record.

However, valid GATE score or CSIR/UGC NET/ NBHM/ JMET/CAT/AIMA or equivalent qualification as applicable for regular (full time) research scholars may not be required in these cases.

(b) Copies of all Mark sheets / grade cards, degree certificates beginning from first degree towards proof of qualification. [Original certificates should not be enclosed].

(c) Copy of Community Certificate in the case of SC/ST/OBC candidates issued by the respective State Government.

(d) Authorised Doctor's Certificate with disability descriptions in the case of Person with Disabled (PD) candidates.

(e) Copy of GATE score or NET (UGC-JRF/ Lectureship/ CSIR/ DAE-JEST) or other fellowship award.

Eligibility: PhD in Engineering

For admission to the PhD Programme in Engineering departments, a candidate must satisfy one of the following criteria:

i) Master's degree in Engineering/Technology/ Medical Sciences/ Veterinary Sciences/ Pharmacy in a relevant area with a minimum Cumulative Performance Index (CPI) of 6.5 or 60% of marks.

ii) Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Technology/Medical Sciences in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 7.5 or 70% of marks.

iii) Bachelor's degree from an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 7.0.

iv) A candidate having MSc degree with Mathematics as a subject at bachelor's level is also considered for admission in the Department of Civil Engineering. The candidate should have a minimum of 7.5 CPI or 70% marks in Master's level with consistent first class at other levels.

v) A candidate with MSc in a relevant area is also considered for admission to the Department of Biotechnology. The Candidate should have a minimum of 7.5 CPI or 70% marks in Master's level.

vi) A regular student of IIT Guwahati who is continuing his/her MTech studies and having a minimum CPI of 8.0 at the end of second semester may be enrolled in the PhD programme of the Department in the beginning of his/her third semester of study. Such students can receive only PhD Degree.

PhD in Design

For admission to the PhD Programme in Design, a candidate must satisfy one of the following criteria:

i) Candidates having MArch/MDes degree or MTech/ ME degree in a relevant area, with a minimum CPI of 6.5 or 60% of marks.

ii) Master's degree in Applied Arts/Ergonomics / Fine Arts/ Psychology/ Physiology with a minimum CPI of 6.5 or 60% marks.

iii) Bachelor's degree in Design or Engineering/ Technology in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 7.5 or 70% of marks.

iv) Bachelor's degree from an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 7.0.

v) A two-year Post-graduate Diploma in Design (NID/CEPT or equivalent) with first class at Bachelor's level.

vi) BFA (4-year professional programme, after 10+2)/GD Art (5-year programme after 10th standard) with one year professional experience, with a minimum CPI of 7.5 or 70% of marks.

vii) A regular student of IIT Guwahati who is continuing his/her MDes studies and having a minimum CPI of 8.0 at the end of second semester may be enrolled in the PhD programme of the Department in the beginning of his/her third semester of study. Such students can receive only PhD Degree.

PhD in Science


For admission to the PhD Programme in Science departments, a candidate must satisfy one of the following criteria:

i) Master's degree in Science in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 6.5 or 60% of marks.

i) Master's degree in Arts/Commerce/Science in a relevant area with a minimum of 55% marks or equivalent.

ii) Master's degree in Engineering/ Technology/ Design in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 6.5 or 60% marks.

PhD in Centres

2. Candidates in Self-financed category should have at least one year of professional experience in the respective field.

Relaxation for SC/ST/PD Candidates: Eligibility criteria will be relaxed by 5% marks or 0.5 CPI for SC/ST/PD applicants.

The strength of M.Phil students will be in the ratio of 2 students per each permanent qualified teacher in the concerned subjects. The total number of seats are inclusion of FIP Quota seats also. One additional seat for each subject is to be created as and when necessary, exclusively for students from Lakshadweep and this particular seat is not to be filled up by any other canbdidate.

ABOUT GATE 2010
Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is an all India examination administered and conducted jointly by the Indian Institute of Science and seven Indian Institutes of Technology on behalf of the National Coordination Board - GATE, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India.
The GATE committee, which comprises of representatives from the administering institutes, is the sole authority for regulating the examination and declaring the results.
GATE is conducted through the constitution of eight zones. The zones and the corresponding administrative institutes are:
The overall coordination and responsibility of conducting GATE 2010 lies with Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, designated as the Organising Institute for GATE 2010 .
Admission to postgraduate programmes with MHRD and some other government scholarships/assistantships in engineering colleges/institutes is open to those who qualify through GATE. GATE qualified candidates with Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Technology/Architecture or Master's degree in any branch of Science/Mathematics/Statistics/Computer Applications are eligible for admission to Master/Doctoral programmes in Engineering/Technology/Architecture as well as for Doctoral programmes in relevant branches of Science with MHRD or other government scholarships/assistantships. To avail the scholarship, the candidate must secure admission to such a postgraduate programme, as per the prevailing procedure of the admitting institution. However, candidates with Master's degree in Engineering/Technology/Architecture may seek admission to relevant PhD programmes with scholarship/assistantship without appearing in the GATE examination.
Some institutions specify GATE qualification as mandatory even for admission of self-financing students to postgraduate programmes. GATE qualified candidates are also eligible for the award of Junior Research Fellowship in CSIR Laboratories and CSIR sponsored projects. Top rank holders in some GATE papers are entitled to apply for "Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Fellowship" awarded by CSIR.   1. New Paper introduced in GATE 2010: Biotechnology (BT) has been introduced as an independent paper from GATE 2010.
  2. Common Component of General Aptitude (GA) introduced in GATE 2010: Each GATE paper shall have a common General Aptitude (GA) component carrying 15 marks from GATE 2010.
  3. Papers to be discontinued from GATE 2010 onwards:

    • Due to introduction of an independent paper in Biotechnology (BT), the Biotechnology section in Life Sciences (XL) paper has been discontinued from GATE 2010.
    • There will not be GATE 2010 examination in Pharmaceutical Sciences (PY) paper. For more information about the organization which will be conducting a GATE like examination for PY, the candidates are advised to visit GATE 2010 website from time to time.

Within the Cavendish Laboratory there is an ongoing research programme on mechanical actuators and artificial muscles based on carbon-nanotube polymer composites and liquid-crystalline elastomers. The current project aims to develop smart polymeric materials capable of light-induced actuation, as a part of a large European FP7 NMP grant "Nano-Optical Mechanical Systems" together with academic and industrial partners from the UK, Spain, Netherlands, Germany and Slovakia, aiming at developing haptic visual-aid tablet displays for the blind.

 

Candidates should have a PhD in material science, chemistry, physics or engineering, demonstrated experience in processing of polymeric materials (ideally, able to carry out organic synthesis) and with a track record of high-quality publications. It is expected to have candidates in post by 1 December 2009.

With the commercialisation of the PS2, Sony incorporated the ferroelectric RAM into a consumer product. This application of a new type of RAM has led to a vibrant research field investigating the influence of nanostructuring functional materials such as barium titanate. This project will develop a new technique to enable the investigation of such functional materials at the nanoscale and help to further understand the influence of nanostructuring on the physical properties of the material.

This project is an extension of the work that has been undertaken by Dr Steve Dunn and co-workers at Cranfield and is in collaboration with Professor Markys Cain of NPL.

Applicants should have an interest in nanoscale technology and, preferably, have a background in chemistry, physics or electronic engineering. The project will be based at Cranfield with occasional travel to NPL, Teddington, London.

WEB COUNSELING PROCEDURE

I   PREAMBLE
The Andhra Pradesh State Council of Higher Education is conducting admission to the Candidates into various Engineering and Pharmacy Courses who passed Intermediate or its Equivalent and qualified in EAMCET (Engineering Agriculture and Medicine Common Entrance Test). 
II   FUTURE PROSPECTS
Candidates after acquiring degree have opportunity to join in various industries and can also acquire higher qualifications by joining various Post-graduate courses in engineering and technology directly.
III   RATIONALE OF WEB COUNSELING
The process of inviting the qualified candidates of EAMCET and allotting a seat as per their option is known as Counseling. Till last year candidate used to attend in any one of the 8 Counseling Centres for securing a seat in a college. In this process, candidates have to travel all the way to report at any one of the counseling centres more than once. But in the Web Counseling candidates can select a college and a Course from a nearest Internet Center.
IV   WHAT IS WEB COUNSELING
For the Convenience of the Candidates from the academic year 2009-10, government have decided to adopt a total web based counseling procedure where candidate can exercise options, that is can select a college and course intend to study through internet centre or internet facility available at their residence and where such facility is not available candidate can approach any one of the help line centres nearer to them.
V    STAGES OF WEB COUNSELING
1.  Issue of Notification: The Andhra Pradesh State Council of Higher Education will issue a notification during first week of may 2009 in news papers indicating the dates and ranks of the candidates to be attended for Registration, Verification of Certificates and Schedule for Exercising options and also notify the list of Help-line Centres. Candidates who fail to report for Certificates verification will not be considered for allotment of seats in any of the colleges.
2.  Certificate Verification: Candidates should produce the follwoing certificates

  -   Hall ticket of EAMCET-2009
  -   Rank Card of EAMCET-2009
  -   SSC/ Intermediate or Equivalent marks memo
  -   Study/Bonafide Certificate from III to X Class and Inetermdiate (10+2)
  -   Caste Certificate of SC/ST/BC/Minorities (if applicable)
  -   Income Certificate issued by MRO issued after 01.01.2009 also be submitted (in case the candidate   -   desires to claim fee exemption).
  -   PH/NCC/CAP/Sports and Games Certificates (if applicable)
  -   Transfer Certificate.
  -   andidates will be issued a receipt of Certificates at Help-line Centres after Verification.
3.  Exercising Options:
 After Certificate Verification in Help-line Centres, a Blank Option Form, List of colleges and their courses, Courses and Course Codes will be given to all the Candidates. Based on the Course Codes and College Codes, Candidates have to write College Name and Courses for which they intend to join and it is advice to prepare such lists in consultation with their parents and friends. From out of that list Candidate has to prioritize and write Priority Number in the Blank Option Form which is essential to enter the options on the web. Candidates can exercise any number of options and can take print out if they desire. Help-Line Centres shall furnish the detailed procedure of Exercising Options.

4.  Modification of Options and Freezing:
If the Candidate is not satisfied with the Options exercised, he can modify the options on the dates notified by the authority and this is final opportunity for exercising options.

5.  Final Allotments of Seats:
Final Allotments will be placed on the Web and the Candidates have to down load the allotment order.

6.  Payment of Seats & Reporting at College:
Candidates with download allotment order have to remit the fee in one of the designated banks and obtain a receipt. Candidate with allotment order and Fee receipts have to report at the Respective colleges where the Seat is allotted within the dates mentioned.
If Candidates fails to report on the dates stipulated the allotment stands cancelled and candidate have no claim further on the allotment.
