DST Postdoctoral Fellowships in NanoScience & Technology


Applications are invited for the award of “DST-Nano Mission Postdoctoral Fellowship” for pursuing research in frontier areas of Nano Science & Technology. The fellowship is tenable in Research Institutions/Universities including non-profit R&D institutions within India. The fellowships are awarded under the Mission on Nano Science & Technology (Nano Mission) of the Department of Science & Technology, Government of India.


ELIGIBILITY
The applicants should either hold a Ph.D degree in Science or Engineering or should have submitted the Ph D thesis with research interests in Nano Science and Technology and a good academic record. They should be below 40 years of age.

DETAILS OF THE AWARD
The fellowship carries a consolidated monthly stipend of Rs.25,000/- besides a research contingency grant of Rs.50,000/- per annum. Funds will be disbursed through the host institution/university. The postdoctoral fellowship is a purely temporary assignment and is tenable for a maximum period of 2 years. In exceptional cases, depending on the progress of the research, the fellowship can be extended for the third year also. Candidates who have submitted the Ph D thesis but are yet to be awarded the Ph.D degree, if selected, will be paid Rs. 20,000/- per month till the award of the degree.

MODE OF SELECTION
The candidates will be selected based on the recommendations of a Search-cum-Selection Committee after the scrutiny of their bio-data, research proposal and performance in the interview. Applicant’s academic and research record, the merit of the proposed research and the facilities available in the host institution for the proposed research will be the key factors for consideration of the application. If the candidate accepts the fellowship, he/she must join the host Institution/University within two month’s time.

MODE OF APPLICATION
Candidates may submit their application on plain paper along with biodata, list of publications (attach reprints of 2 important papers), copies of certificates (B.Sc., M.Sc., M.Tech, Ph.D), one page synopsis of Ph.D thesis, and enclose a short write up (1000 words) on the proposed research which must be compatible with the ongoing research of the proposed supervisor. The candidate should request three referees to send their confidential evaluation directly to the address given below. The applicant is advised to propose his/her place of work, name of the supervisor and his/her consent of accepting the candidate. A declaration stating that if selected for the fellowship, the candidate will complete the tenure of the fellowship should also be furnished.

Part-time Candidates (External): Candidates working in Industry involved in R&D activities or Research Organisations recognized by this University, and who are permitted for pursuing Ph.D. Programmes in this University while continuing in their job, shall belong to this category. While they shall pursue research in their place of employment, such candidates shall report to their respective supervisor as and when required.

Candidates desirous of registering for the Ph.D. Degree shall submit the application in the prescribed form through proper channel, wherever applicable in response to the advertisement by the University.

Masters Degree in Engineering/Technology/Architecture/Urban & Rural Planning/Sciences/ Humanities & Social Sciences and Management in respective discipline or equivalent with a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 6.00 on a 10 point scale or equivalent as determined by the Institute wherever letter grades are awarded or 60% marks in aggregate (of all the years/ semesters) where marks are awarded. Applicants with B.Tech./B.Arch. Degree or equivalent in respective discipline with excellent academic record (with a minimum CGPA of 7.00 on a 10 point scale or equivalent or 70% marks) may be considered eligible for admission. Engineering/Architecture graduates from IIT/University of Roorkee having CGPA Score > 8.00 or marks > 80%.

Relaxation in eligibility in terms of minimum CGPA up to 5.5 or 55% marks in aggregate will be given to SC/ST, Physically Handicapped applicants and those with M.A. English (for admission to Ph.D. English).

Reservation for OBC/SC/ST/PD will be as per Govt. of India directive/Institute rules.

A few Institutional Assistantships (MHRD) are available to non-sponsored full-time candidates. Eligible employees of 'IIT Rookee recognized Organizations', may be considered as per Regulations for admission to part time Ph.D. Programmes.

POST-DOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP:
A limited number of Fellowships are available to carry out advanced research in all the disciplines as mentioned above. Interested candidates having a Ph.D. Degree may apply for Post-Doctoral Fellowship in all the disciplines mentioned above. Those with Ph.D Degree in Science and Engineering or those who have recently submitted their Doctoral theses can apply. Age should be same as for Ph.D. Duration is 2 years (renewable for one more year). Fellowship will be (i) Rs. 25,000/- p.m. for a Ph.D. with 2 years experience (ii) Rs. 20,000/- p.m. for a recent Ph.D. Degree holder. Contingency will be Rs. 20,000/- per annum. H.R.A as admissible will be given. First class in Degree preceding Ph.D and publications in journals of repute is desirable.

Workshop on galaxy astronomy - M.G.University, Kottayam

The workshop includes introductory lectures on astronomy, demonstrations of various astronomical data analysis techniques/tools, invited lectures and projects.Major part of the project is expected to  be completed during the course of the workshop and the rest of the work is  expected to be  finished  as per the guidelines given by the respective project supervisor. 
It is hoped that colleges would provide some facilities, in the form of computer, time etc. to their students to work on their extended projects (not mandatory). 
 N.B :-The detailed time schedule of the workshop will be displayed later !
