Students who are presently studying in BITS at any of its campuses are not eligible to appear in BITSAT-2010
Admissions will be made purely on merit. The merit position of the candidate for admission will be based on the score obtained by the candidate in the BITSAT-2010. However, their eligibility for admission is subject to fulfilling the requirement of minimum marks in 12th examination, as mentioned above.

Direct Admission to Board Toppers:
In the past, admission process of the Institute always ensured guaranteed admission to all the students who obtained first ranks in their respective board examinations. This has given a very vital input of highly meritorious students from all over India. Continuing this tradition, the Institute will give direct admission to first rank students of all the central and state boards to the programme of their choice, irrespective of their BITSAT-2010 score.

Eligibility criteria for admission under 'Direct admission to Board toppers' scheme:
To be eligible for admission under the 'Direct admission to Board toppers' scheme, the candidate should be the topper from the science stream having taken physics, Chemistry, Mathematics subjects in 12th. To identify the topper, the following criteria will be adopted.
a) has taken physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics subjects in 12th and
b) has obtained the highest aggregate percentage of marks in 12th among all the students who have taken physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics subjects in 2010 from the Board. For the purpose of calculating the aggregate percentage, the aggregate marks should include the marks of physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics subjects in addition to other subjects which are required to pass the 12th examination from the Board under consideration. Further, the physics, Chemistry, Mathematics subject marks should be included in the aggregate, irrespective of whether the physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics subjects are identified as main/optional/elective in his marksheet(s).
Applicants under the scheme should attach documentary proof in support of their claim, along with the 12th mark sheet and a letter from the Board declaring the candidate as the topper in the specified stream. The Institute will also make efforts to get these data from the different boards on its own. In all cases, the Institute will be guided by the data provided by the concerned Board. In cases where for a particular board, the data available before the deadline is insufficient or inconclusive, the admission committee may decide not to make any offer under the scheme for that specified Board. In all such cases, the decision of the Vice chancellor will be final and binding on the applicants

Bharathidasan University (BDU) - The Centre for Distance Education (CDE)

The Centre for Distance Education (CDE) of Bharathidasan University (BDU) was established in the year 1992, originally intended to cater to the students of the University area who could not enter the regular colleges for higher studies. Subsequently, the area of Centre for Distance Education was extended to cover all over India.

To help the Students, our Personal Contact Programme Centres (PCP) are located in 41 Towns / Cities. There are more than 16,000 students on roll, with an annual enrolment of about 7,000 to 8,000 students. The Centre for Distance Education offers as many as 66 programmes including 14 UG, 24 PG, 7 Diploma / PG Diploma MCA and MBA programmes are the most sought after Courses.

Besides the conventional programmes the Centre for Distance Education is offering programmes in Computer Science and Applications, Information Technology, E-Commerce, Bank Management, Financial Management, Co-Operation, Library and Information Science, Animation etc. The lab-oriented programmes are meticulously planned and executed with same vigor of regular programmes, with no compromise on the practical requirements.

The Centre for Distance Education conducts the theory and practical classes on Saturdays and Sundays. The conduct of the programmes are strictly monitored by the Centre for Distance Education Staff and the Director through regular visit to the PCP Centres.

The students are requested to give their feedback with regard to the quality of teaching. Remedial steps will be taken to maintain high standard of teaching. There is a grievance register kept at every PCP center. The grievances of the students will be redressed without any delay. The study materials are also given to the students regularly in tune with the every revision in the syllabi.

A significant number of our MCA students have found quite lucrative career abroad.

F.A.Q.

1.  How much GPA / %  is required to get admission into the VSRP program?

There is no cut-off GPA that is needed for the VSRP program. We look at the overall profile while making a decision. This includes academic performance as evinced by grades/GPA, referee reports, your write up, etc.

2. I have finished my MSc / am in my final year of MSc / am in the 2nd year of Engineering … but am interested in applying to the VSRP program. Your website says only pre-final year students are allowed to apply. Can I apply ?

The program is designed primarily for pre-final year students.  We're sorry, but given the response the VSRP program generates just among pre-final year students, we cannot consider candidates who have finished their MSc. While you may apply if you are in your second year, or in the final year, unless you are really exceptionally well qualified, the probability of getting admission is very low.

3. I will be having my engineering 6th semester exams sometime  in June due to which there might be a clash with the research program schedule. could you please clarify as to whether this clash could be avoided. If you can  reschedule your exams,  then the clash can be avoided ?

The VSRP is an VERY INTENSIVE program, and we do not allow students to take off in the middle, or reschedule the timings. If you are NOT free for the ENTIRE  period, please do NOT apply for the VSRP program.

4. It is not clear if any program is available for XXXX Engg. related research or if pre-final year XXXX Engg. student is eligible for a VSRP project in the YYYY department.

Anyone with any eligible degree is free to apply to any department. We do not restrict students from exploring projects in other areas if they demonstrate a keen interest and competency. Your research write up, recommendations etc. are all important, not just the degree / GPA.

5. I am doing my MSc physics at IIT-X.Actually i wanted to know how many students do you take from IITX ?
We have no fixed number of students that we take from any one institution. However, as we take typically ~40 students from all over India, very often, only one or two students are taken from a single institution, though this depends primarily on the merit of the student.

6. I am doing MSc in physics. I am super interested in going for a summer project on the topic "Spin injection through different g-factor heterointerfaces using negative trions….".Please mail me more information about the project as soon as possible so that i can apply for…..

The students do not decide the project topic as a rule. Depending on your interest and competency, the department will assign you a project guide (if you are selected), and you will together decide on the details of the project. If you would really like to work in a very particular area please mention your interests on the VSRP application form.

7. I am from India, but I am currently pursuing my undergraduate studies in the US. I am interested in applying to VSRP.
We are sorry to disappoint you, but at present, the VSRP program admits only those students pursuing their studies at institutions within India. We however would encourage you to visit TIFR and interact with members in your area of interest when you visit India.

8. Is it compulsory to have a detailed knowledge about the particular research topic of interest ?
While no specialized knowledge is necessary, we would expect you to have a very thorough understanding of what is typically taught at the Pre-Final year level.

9. Are we to undertake a project on the research topic and finish it in the two month visiting time or is it a chance to read and enhance my knowledge on the particular topic.
You will be working on a focussed research project.

10. Will I have to compulsorily stay at TIFR during the full duration of the program ?

No, but given the intensity of the project it will be very difficult for you to work on it if you do not stay somewhere close enough.   Participants are paid a monthly stipend of Rs 6000/-, Sleeper class return railway fare and are provided with shared hostel accommodation.
