    GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering), The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering is an All - India Examination conducted by the seven IITs and IISc Bangalore, on behalf of the National Coordinating Board - GATE, Department of Education, Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD), Government of India.     JAM (Joint Admission Test to M.Sc) for admission to M.Sc programmes at the IITs. From year 2005 admissions to MCA programme at IIT Roorkee are also made through JAM which were previously through AIMCET. More info at JAM website

    JMET (Joint Management Entrance Test) The Joint Management Entrance Test is an Examination conducted by the seven IITs and IISc Bangalore for admission to the Postgraduate Degree Programmes in Management in the respective Institutes. More info at JMET website

    C-MET invites young and talented persons with research aptitude to work as JUNIOR RESEARCH FELLOW and PROJECT STAFF in one of its scientific projects sponsored by BRNS Mumbai.

    Duration of the project : 24 months.

    Nature of the Post: Purely temporary and is project based

    Qualifications : JRF : First Class M.Sc. Physics/ Materials Science/Polymer Chemistry or First Class Bachelors Degree in Electronics & Communication/Electrical Engineering.

    Project Staff–B : First Class Diploma in Electronics/ Electrical/ Mechanical Engineering or B.Sc. with Physics/Materials
    Science.

    Project Staff-C : First Class Trade Certificate (ITI/ITC) in Electronics/ Electrical/Mechanical Engineering.

    Age : Not exceeding 25 years as on 28.02.2010.

    Emoluments : JRF - Consolidated pay of Rs. 12000/- p.m. and HRA of Rs. 1200/-

    Project Staff – B : Consolidated pay of Rs. 7,500/- p.m. and HRA of Rs. 750/-

    Nature of Work:
    The nature of the job will be the preparation of various ceramic compositions through solid state ceramic route, theoretical modeling of heterogeneous systems, preparation of polymer/ceramic composite laminates and characterization of the same using microwave measurement techniques.


    General Terms and Conditions:
    1. The Post is purely temporary and appointment will initially be for one year and may be extended till the completion of the project.
    2. On appointment, it will not confer any right on the appointee for claim for regular appointment.
    3. Selected candidate will be required to produce a medical certificate of fitness in the prescribed form, from a Government Doctor not below the rank of Civil
    Surgeon and character certificates from two Gazetted Officers working in Central/State Government at the time of joining the post.
    4. Selected candidate will be required to report for duty as mentioned in the offer (normally within 10 days from the date of offer) and no extension will be given.
    5. Selected candidate will be required to work till the completion of the project and resigning from the post during the currency of the project period shall not normally be entertained.

    Those eligible for JRF may attend an interview on 25.03.2010 and those eligible for Project Staff-B & Project Staff-C may attend an interview on 26.03.2010 at “Centre for Materials for Electronics Technology (C-MET), Shornur Road, Athani-P.O., Thrissur-680 771”. The registration will be between 8.30 AM to 11.00 AM.

    Only those candidates who are screened by a Committee will be considered for interview subject to verification of original documents. The applicants shall bring originals along with copies of documents in support of Qualification, Age, Caste etc. The applicants shall also bring one recent Passport size Photograph at the time of registration.

    Chennai Mathematical Institute - Applications for August, 2010 Admission

    Chennai Mathematical Institute is a centre of excellence for teaching and research in the mathematical sciences. It was founded in 1989 as a part of the SPIC Science Foundation, funded by the SPIC group in Chennai. Since 1996, it has been an autonomous institution.
    The main areas of research at CMI are Mathematics, Computer Science and Physics. In addition to a vibrant PhD programme, the Institute conducts BSc programmes in Mathematics and Computer Science as well as Physics, along with MSc programmes in Mathematics and Computer Science.

    All students receive handsome scholarships that meet all expenses. B.Sc. (Hons.) students receive a scholarship of Rs. 3000 per month, M.Sc. students receive a scholarship of Rs. 5000 per month and Ph.D. scholarships start at Rs. 12000 per month. Students of B.Sc. (Hons.) also receive an additional monthly scholarship of Rs. 2000, made possible through generous private donations.

    Qualify for PhD Computer Science via JEST-2010

    Candidates applying to the PhD programme in Computer Science at CMI for the academic year starting August 2010 can qualify for the interview on the basis of their performance in the Joint Entrance Screening Test (JEST-2010) in Theoretical Computer Science, without writing the CMI entrance examination.
    If you have written JEST-2010 and wish to apply to the PhD programme in Computer Science at CMI, you should fill out the CMI application form in full detail. If you qualify directly for the interview based on your performance JEST-2010, you will receive a notification from us. If you do not hear from us, you must write the CMI entrance examination in order to qualify.

    Application Procedure

    To obtain application forms and information brochures by post, send a DD for Rs. 300/- in favour of Chennai Mathematical Institute payable at Chennai to the address given here. Indicate clearly your name, address and the programme(s) you are applying for.
    Alternatively, you can download an application form online. For online applications, the application fee is the same: one DD for Rs. 300/- in favour of Chennai Mathematical Institute, to be mailed along with your completed application form. You will be asked to enter the DD details in the online form. Applying to multiple programmesYou may apply to multiple programmes. If you are applying to more than one programme, you need to send only a single DD for Rs. 300/-, whether you request a form by post or apply online.     There is a common entrance examination for the MSc and PhD programmes in Mathematics. Similarly, there is a common entrance examination for the MSc and PhD programmes in Computer Science.
    The entrance examination for MSc/PhD in Computer Science is at the same time as the examination for MSc in Applications of Mathematics. If you wish to apply for both these programmes, you should fill out both forms but you should write the exam for MSc in Applications of Mathematics. Based on your performance in that exam, you will be called for an interview to finalise your admission to MSc/PhD in Computer Science.
    Deadline
    The last date for receiving completed application forms is Monday, 19 April, 2010.

    Applications are invited from Indian citizens for admission for the session commencing from July 2010 in the following programmes:

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
    Ph.D (Engineering): The applicant must have a master's degree in engineering with marks/CPI not below the specified minimum. Applicants with a bachelor's degree in engineering with a minimum of 75 percent marks/7.5 CPI, or master’s degree in science or an allied area, satisfying each of the following criteria may also be considered:
    (a) a minimum of 65 percent marks/6.5 CPI in the master’s degree,
    (b) first division in bachelor’s degree, and
    (c) JRF/95 percentile or higher in GATE.
    For admission into Ph.D. in Biological Sciences and Bio-engineering, applicants having master’s degree in pharmacy/medicine with marks/CPI not below the specified minimum, or bachelor’s degree in pharmacy/medicine with a minimum of 75 percent marks/7.5 CPI, may also be considered
    Ph.D. (Sciences & HSS): M.Sc./M.A. degree in respective or allied area with a valid GATE/UGC/CSIR score.
    M.Tech.: B.Tech./B.E./B.Sc.(Engg.)/M.Sc. in respective or allied area with a valid GATE/UGC/CSIR score; B.Tech. graduates from IITs with an overall minimum CGPA of 6.5 and a CGPA of 8.0 during the last two semesters in B.Tech. may also apply without a GATE score (such candidates will, however, be not entitled for Institute Assistantship if CGPA is below 8.0). For M.Tech. in Biological Sciences and Bio Engineering, candidates with MBBS or B.Pharma Degree are also considered. Eligibility for a specialization within a Department may depend on the candidate’s choice of test paper in GATE.
    M.Des.: A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Design or Architecture with a valid GATE/CEED score.
    GENERAL INFORMATION: Financial aid (Assistantship/Scholarship) is provided for M.Tech., Ph.D. and M.Sc.-Ph.D. (Dual Degree) Programmes. Tuition fee waiver of 50 percent as provided for M.Sc. (2 Yrs)/M.Sc-Ph.D. (Dual Degree) students after first Semester. Sponsored and part-time candidates are also considered for M.Tech., M.Des. and Ph.D. Programmes. Sponsored candidates do not require GATE qualification. Several attractive Fellowships from Industries/DAE are also available.     RESERVATION: Reservations will be 15% for SC, 7.5% for ST and 27% for OBC (non creamy layer) for the year 2010-11. Also upto 3% reservation shall apply as per Government of India rules for persons with physical disability (PD).

    1. GATE 2010 results will be announced on March 15, 2010 at 10:00 hrs. at GATE offices and on the websites of IISc and seven IITs.





    2. GATE 2010 score is valid for TWO YEARS from the date of announcement of the GATE 2010 results.





    3. The GATE results will be made available to interested organizations (educational institutions, R & D laboratories, industries, etc.) in India and abroad based on written request by the organization and on payment. Details can be obtained from GATE Chairmen of IITs/IISc.


    4. The machine-gradable Optical Response Sheets (ORS) are graded and scrutinized with extreme care. There is no provision for regrading and retotalling. No photocopies of the machine-gradable Optical Response Sheets (ORS) will be made available. No correspondence in this regard will be entertained.

    RESEARCH ENTRANCE TEST (RET) - 2010

    1. Admission to Ph.D. Programme shall be through RESEARCH ENTRANCE TEST (RET). The test shall be held on April 11, 2010 (Sunday). Those candidates whose final result of qualifying examination is awaited, for any reason, shall be allowed to appear provisionally. Such candidates shall have to produce the mark sheet of the final result at the time of submission of application form for registration to Ph.D.


    2 Those candidates whose Research Degree Committee (RDC) meeting was held after July11, 2009 shall have to qualify the RET for their registration to Ph.D. degree.


    3 Those candidates, who have qualified UGC/CSIR-NET/NET(JRF)/ICAR- NET/SLET/GATE/Teacher Fellowship shall be exempted from the RET.


    4 Candidates with M.Phil. degree from CCS University, Meerut provided their admission to M.Phil. was through entrance examination/test, are also exempted from RET.
    Candidates whose admission to M.Phil. course was based on merit are NOT exempted from RET. M.Phil. degree holder of either type from other universities/ institutions are NOT exempted from RET.


    5 In addition to the above, the ordinances of the University in respect of Ph.D. Programme
    shall apply.

    The Candidates shall be allowed to apply for Entrance Test only in one subject.

    Application form for RET will be available on-line only on the website http://www.ccsuniversity.ac.in. and can be filled only on-line from March 1, 2010 11.00 a.m. to March 20, 2010 till 6.00 p.m.


    8 Candidate should fill-up the on-line application form. After submission of application form on-line by the candidate, Roll Number will be generated on the form itself. Please remember the Roll Number and Password used by you while filling, the application form on-line. The hard copy (printed copy) of the Application Form along with the following enclosures and those mentioned in the application form be sent through Speed-Post/Registered-Post in an envelop of the size 36 cm x 25 cm marked in bold letters 'RET EXAMINATION-2010" at the following address. Last date for receipt of hard copy (printed copy) of the on-line filled application form alongwith enclosures is March 24, 2010 till 4.30 p.m. Application form will not be accepted by hand.

    Conditions of Eligibility


    1 Those who have acquired Masters Degree in the concerned subject in II Class with not less than 50% marks and B.Ed. Degree in any discipline from any one of the Universities in Kerala or have acquired these
    qualifications from any other University recognized as equivalent thereto are eligible to apply for the SET 2010 with certain exceptions as mentioned in the following paragraphs.


    2 For Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Botany and Zoology, those having Second Class MSc.Ed Degree in the concerned subject with not less than 50% marks from one of the Regional Institutes of Education sponsored by NCERT will be eligible to apply. For Botany and Zoology, those having Second Class MSc.Ed Degree in Life Science (with not less than 50% marks) from one of the Regional Institutes of Education are also eligible.

    3 For the subjects Anthropology, Commerce, Computer Science/Information Technology, Electronics, French, Gandhian Studies, Geology, German, Home Science, Journalism, Latin, Music, Russian, Social Work, Sociology, Statistics, Syriac, Philosophy and Psychology, candidates need not acquire B.Ed. Degree for appearing for the State Eligibility Test.

    4 Those who have acquired II class Masters Degree in Communicative English with not less than 50% marks and BEd. are eligible to appear for SET in English.

    5 Candidates who have acquired Diploma in Hindi Teaching, but do not have B.Ed. Degree, are eligible to apply for SET in accordance with the exemption clause provided in the Special Rules.

    6 Candidates who have acquired B.Ed Degree in Hindi conducted by the Dakshin Bharatha Hindi Prachar Sabha are exempted from the requirement of producing the equivalency certificate, as the degree has been recognized by the Universities in Kerala.

    7 Candidates who have acquired their qualification through Correspondence Course / Open Universities which are not recognized by any one of the Universities in Kerala are not eligible to appear for the SET.
    Candidates who have acquired their qualifications through recognized correspondence courses/Open universities should obtain and furnish certificates of recognition and equivalency from any one of the Universities in Kerala.


    8 Candidates admitted in the year 2009 for B.Ed. courses will be permitted to appear for the State Eligibility Test 2010. Candidates appearing for Post Graduate final year / Final semester Examinations in the academic year 2009-2010 will also be permitted to appear for SET 2010 if they already have a B.Ed Degree. SET certificates of such candidates will be issued only if they qualify the PG/B.Ed examinations in that chance
    itself. The B.Ed candidates shall produce the pass certificates and PG candidates shall produce both the pass certificates and mark lists for proving their eligibility after qualifying the SET-2010. Candidates appearing simultanenously for PG and B.Ed. Final examinations are not eligible to appear for SET-2010 under this provision.


    9 For the subject Latin, candidates who have passed their degree examination in any discipline from any one of the Universities in Kerala or from any other University recognized as equivalent thereto with Latin as their Second Language under Part II with not less than 50% marks for that Part II are also eligible to appear for SET, provided such
    candidates have acquired II Class Masters Degree with not less than 50 % marks in any discipline.



    10 Relaxation of Minimum marks for SC/ST Candidates
    Candidates belonging to SC/ST categories shall be granted a relaxation of 5% marks in the minimum marks prescribed for the eligibility to appear for the State Eligibility Test. However the minimum requirement of a pass in second class for the qualifying examination, shall not be applicable.



    Age Limit
    No age limit is prescribed for candidates appearing for the SET.

    Mode of Registration for SET-2010
    1 Candidates intending to register for the State Eligibility Test are required to pay the fee for the Test in advance to obtain the prescribed Application form and Prospectus. The fee shall be Rs.500 for general candidates and Rs.250 for SC/ST candidates.
    2 Mode of Remitting fee
    The fee for the test can be remitted in any selected office or branch of a service provider to be notified later. Copy of the Prospectus and application form shall be issued to all candidates who remit the prescribed fee. SC/ST candidates should produce a copy of the Community Certificate to get the prospectus and application form for Rs.250/-. Fee once remitted shall not be refunded. Application forms are not available by post to the candidates residing in Kerala.

    Candidates residing outside the State of Kerala can request for the application form and prospectus by post.In such cases the mode of payment of fee shall be only be through Demand Draft (Rs.550/- for general category candidates and Rs.300/- for SC/ST candidates) drawn from any one of the nationalised banks in India in favour of the Director, LBS Centre for Science & Technology payable at Thiruvananthapuram. Request for the application forms by post along with the Demand Draft and a self addressed envelope of size 31 cm X 25 cm should reach the office of the Director, LBS Centre at least 10 days before the closing date fixed for registration for SET-2010.

    Uniqueness of application forms:Each application form will have an application number printed on it and a Security Key embedded on the bottom of the detachable portion of the application form. The candidate can scratch this portion to get the Security Key. Candidates are requested to maintain the confidentiality of their Security Key and the Application number. Applications submitted using forms other than the original ones issued, will be summarily rejected.
