Eligibility:
1. Candidate for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy must, at the time of application, hold Master’s degree with at least 60% marks or an equivalent grade of the University, a deemed University or any other University incorporated by any law for the time being in force and recognized by the University. However, for SC / ST candidates, 55% marks are required instead of 60%.
2. A candidate will ordinarily be permitted to work for PhD Degree in the subject in which he/she has obtained his Master’s or Bachelor degree in Engineering /Technology / Applied Sciences. Provided that the subject must be one of the subjects included in the Statute of the list of subjects of the University and teaching must be going on in the subject in University Teaching Departments /college affiliated to the University, which has been recognized as a research centre.
3. PhD degree may be allowed in allied subjects of interdisciplinary nature of the same faculty or of allied faculties. Whether a subject is allied or not to the subject in which the candidate has done Master’s or Bachelor degree in Engineering / Technology / Applied Sciences, shall be decided by the Academic Council.

Candidates will be admitted in PhD programme on the basis of an entrance test and subsequent interview, which will be conducted by an Admission Committee constituted by the University.

    MERIT SCHOLARSHIP
    The Central Board of Secondary Education has invited applications from 2011 batch of X & XII classes for the award of the following Scholarship Schemes:
    1. CBSE Merit Scholarship Scheme for Single Girl Child for + 2 studies.
    2. Central Sector Scheme of Scholarship for College and University Students 2011.

    Renewals
    The scholars of all the schemes, who have been granted scholarships by the Board in the previous years, may also apply for renewal of their scholarships by 31st December 2011.
    Eligibility Criteria
    The applicant should fulfill all the criteria given below for consideration and award of scholarship:-
    (i) should be an Indian national.
    (ii) should be the girl child and only child of her parents.
    (iii) should be a student of CBSE in Class X (i.e. passed class X from a CBSE affiliated school) and having 6.2 or more CGPA in Class X Examinations 2011 conducted by the Board and pursuing Class XI & XII from CBSE affiliated Schools (As per statement of subject-wise performance issued by the Board).
    (iv) the tuition fees for Class X should not be more than Rs. 1,500/- per month during the Academic year. In the next 2 years the total enhancement of tuition fee shall not be more than 10% of the tuition fee.
    Value of scholarship Rs. 500/- per month
    Duration : 2 years only (for Class XI & XII)

    All the application must be signed by the applicant. Unsigned applications or signed by the parents will be rejected.
    Attestation
    All the applications must be certified along with signature/ stamp of the Principal of the present school where the student is studying. In case applications are not attested the same will be rejected.

    2. Photocopy of affidavit will not be accepted.

    (I) Computer Science and Engineering:
    Eligibility Criteria: Candidates having B.Tech/B.E. in computer science and engineering or equivalent qualification with 60% marks (or 6.5 grade point out of 10) with valid GATE score or candidates with M.Tech./M.E./M.S. or equivalent qualification in computer science and engineering or equivalent degree with 60% marks (or 6.5 grade point out of 10) are eligible to apply.
    Areas of Research: The department is looking for excellent candidates willing to engage in multi-disciplinary research in systems and theory.
    (II) School of Mechanical, Materials and Energy Engineering (SMMEE):
    1. Candidates with a Master's degree in Engineering/Technology with a good academic record or a Master's degree by Research in Engineering/Technology disciplines, with a good academic record. Candidates must have obtained at least 60% marks (or 6.5 Grade Point out of 10) in their Master's. or
    2. Candidates with Master's degree in Sciences# with a good academic record and of exceptional merit and with a valid score in GATE/UGC/CSIR/NET/NBHM or equivalent qualification are eligible for the relevant area of research* in SMMEE. Candidates must have obtained at least 60% marks (or 6.5 Grade Point out of 10) in their Master's. or
    3. Candidates with Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Technology with exceptionally good academic record in an eligible discipline will be considered for direct admission to Ph.D. Program as a regular full time scholar subject to the following conditions:
    a) B.Tech degree holder of an IIT, with a minimum CGPA of 8.0 on a 10.0 point scale.
    b) A Bachelors degree holder in Engineering/Technology having a valid GATE score. Candidates must have obtained at least 60% marks (or 6.5 Grade Point out of 10) in their Bachelor's.

    Indian Institute of Information Technology and Mangement-Kerala (IIITM-K) has invited applications for admission to the Ph.D. programme in Computer Science and IT in the areas of Machine/Artificial Intelligence, Data Mining Medical Image Computing and VLSI Memory Networks, commencing in November 2011.
    Eligibility:
    For admission to the Ph.D. Programme a candidate must have a Master’s degree in Engineering / Technology / Science / MCA / M.Sc CS/IT in a relevant area with a minimum Cumulative Performance Index (CPI) of 6.5 or 60% of marks.
    Preference will be given to candidates who have qualified in the entrance test conducted by the university or National Eligibility Test conducted by the UGC / CSIR / ICAR / ICMR or GATE or State Level Eligibility Test conducted by Kerala Government or Fellowship awarded by KSCSTE or who possess M Phil degree by research and thesis, in addition to a Masters Degree or its equivalent with not less than 60% marks are considered eligible to apply for registration for PhD research.
    Relaxation for SC/ST Candidates:
    Eligibility criteria will be relaxed by 5% marks or 0.5 CPI for SC/ ST applicants.
    SPEED-IT Research Fellowship:
    The selected full-time candidates shall be eligible to get ”SPEED-IT Research Fellowship” instituted by the Department of Information Technology, Government of Kerala. Number of seats for SPEED IT Scholarship is 2.
    Each selected student will be eligible for a monthly fellowship of Rs 14,000/- for the first year, Rs 15,000/- for the second year and Rs 17,000/- for the third year. An annual contingency grant of Rs 20,000/- will also be paid.
    Selection :
    Researchers will be selected on the basis of research aptitude test, a presentation of their PhD research proposal, and personal interview conducted by IIITM-K of candidates who meet the standards prescribed by a University in Kerala. Those who have not qualified any of the examinations prescribed by University to register for Ph.D, should qualify the examination within one year, and then proceed for registration.
    Initial shortlisting process: The applications are reviewed by 3 experts and applications shortlisted based on the total marks given by them. In short listing the candidates, 70% weightage is given to research potential. The remaining 30% is divided as: 10% for applicants university marks at masters level, 10% for research/academic/industry experience, and 10% for peer-reviewed research publications.
    Interview:
    Only shortlisted candidates are called for the interview. There will three rounds of interview assessments lasting two days.

    Admission Requirements: The admission requirement for the PhD program in the science stream is MSc in any branch of science and a Masters degree in Chemical Engineering/Technology or related discipline for the PhD Programme in Engineering. Applicants should have qualified for a UGC/CSIR/DBT/ICMR/BINC/DST-INSPIRE JRF or any other research fellowship programme. Admission is through an initial screening of the applications followed by personal interview.
    Application procedure and interview schedule: Candidates applying to the PhD program who fulfil the requirements may be asked to submit their application by email/hardcopy or apply online at the CSIR-NCL/AcSIR website. The list of candidates eligible for appearing interviews, after initial screening will be uploaded on the CSIR-NCL/AcSIR website. The interviews will be held in the last week of November 2011 at CSIR-NCL. List of selected candidates under different disciplines will be announced after the interviews. Students may consider staying back in Pune for two to three days more after the interviews, so that in the event of their selection, they may complete the counselling and selection of research guides. Counselling will be held on the next day after the interviews. Details of counselling will be announced at the time of the interviews.
