Applicants should have M.Sc./M.Sc. (Tech) in Physics/Applied Physics / Geophysics/Applied Mathematics with a minimum of 60 % marks throughout and Physics as a subject in B.Sc. Those appearing for Master̢۪s Degree examination in 2009 may also apply. Maximum Age limit is 25 years as on 1st June, 2009.
Selected candidates will be required to do research work at Mumbai or other centers of the institute located at Tirunelveli (Tamil Nadu) and Allahabad (Uttar Pradesh).
Scholarship of Rs. 12,000/- per month (consolidated) for the first and second year and Rs. 14,000/- per month in subsequent years is available. In addition, Book Grant of Rs. 6,000/- per annum is provided to students registered for Ph.D. Hostel accommodation is also provided.
Selection will be based on a written test to be held at the institute in Mumbai followed by personal interview. Candidates who are in possession of GATE/NET (for JRF only) certificate valid up to January 2010 in Subject Code -2 (Earth, Atmospheric, Ocean and Planetary Science) or Subject Code -5 (Physical Science) will be called directly for the interview.
To and fro IInd class train fare by the shortest route will be paid to outstation candidates attending Test/Interview subject to the production of valid ticket.
