Cochin university of science and technology [CUSAT, Cochin] has invited application for admission to the various academic programmes for the year 2009-10.
Admissions are based on Common Admission Test (CAT)/ Test for Lateral Entry (LET)/Departmental Admission Test (DAT), depending on the course applied for.
CAT for admission to B.Tech and Integrated M.Sc. in Photonics will be held on 24th May 2009 (Sunday) at New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkatta, Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Lucknow, Ranchi, Varanasi, Allahabad, Jamshedpur, Kota and all district head quarters of Kerala.
CAT for all PG Programmes (except M.A. Hindi & M.A. Applied Economics) will be held on 23rd May 2009 (Saturday). CAT for M. A. Hindi, L.L.B. (Hons.) and M. A. Applied Economics will be held on 24th May, 2009.
CAT for PG Programmes/LL.B will be held in District head quarters of Kerala only.
LET for B. Tech Lateral Entry will be on 30th May 2009 (Saturday) at Kochi only.

B.Tech: (Civil/Computer Science & Engg/Electrical & Electronics/Electronics & Communication/Information Technology/Mechanical/Safety & Fire/Polymer Science & Engineering) & 5-Year Integrated M.Sc. in Photonics: Pass in Plus Two Examination, Kerala/equivalent with Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry as optional subjects securing a minimum of 50% marks in Mathematics and 50% marks in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry together.
B.Tech in Instrumentation Technology: Pass in Plus Two/Equivalent examination of any State/National Board with Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry and minimum of 60% marks in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry together, with at least 55% in Mathematics separately.
B.Tech in Marine Engg: Pass in Plus Two/equivalent examination with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and English with a PCM average of not less than 60% marks & minimum 50% for Mathematics (ii) 50% marks in English at 10th/12th standards. There is no relaxation in qualification For SC/ST candidates. Vocational/Diploma students are not eligible to apply. The Maximum age limit prescribed is 25 years as on 1st September 2009. Eligibility for admission will be based on directions from the DG Shipping (India).
B.Tech in Naval Architecture & Ship Building: Pass in Plus Two, Kerala / equivalent with First Class securing 50% marks in Mathematics and in Mathematics , Physics and Chemistry together.
5 Year LL.B. (Hons) : Pass in Plus Two examination with 60% marks in Science/ Commerce or with 55% marks in Arts/ Humanities. Applicants should not have completed 21 years of age on 1.1.2009. SC/ST candidates need only pass marks in the qualifying examination except for B.Tech Marine Engineering.

M.Tech Programmes: Admissions to M.Tech Programmes are generally based on valid GATE score as prescribed under the academic regulations specific to each programme. Candidates not possessing GATE may also apply, but will be considered only if GATE qualified candidates are not available. In such cases, admissions will be based on the Departmental Admission Test (DAT).

Lateral Entry (LET) to B.Tech: Civil/Computer Science & Engg/Electrical & Electronics/Electronics & Communication/Information Technology/ Instrumentation Technology/ Mechanical/ Polymer Science & Engineering/Safety & Fire Engg- Applicant should have a Diploma recognized by the Boards of Technical Education of the States after undergoing a regular course of 3 years duration with not less than 60% marks. The maximum age prescribed is 25 years as on 1st July 2009.

Candidates who have appeared/are appearing in full for the final qualifying examination can also apply. This provision is not applicable to the candidates appearing for compartmental/improvement examinations.
Keralites/ Non- Keralites: A candidate will be considered as a "Keralite" for the limited purpose of eligibility for admission, if (a) He/she or his/her father/mother was born in Kerala OR (b) He/She has been a resident of Kerala for a period of 5 years within a period of 12 years OR (c) He/she has undergone his/her school studies from standards VIII to XII in education institutions in Kerala. Children of All India Service (AIS) Officers (non-Keralites) allotted to Kerala Circle will also be treated a 'Keralite' without eligibility for Communal Reservation.
All others will be treated as 'Non-Keralites'. Applicants eligible for 'Keralites' status should apply using OMR application form while 'Non-Keralites' should submit application 'online' at www.cusat.nic.in . Naval Candidates should submit OMR application.

An applicant can apply for 3 Programmes using a single application. For each Additional Programme (for Programmes Exceeding three), applicant has to attach additional Demand Draft taken from State Bank of India/State Bank allied Banks drawn in favour of Registrar, CUSAT payable at Ernakulam along with the application form at the rate of Rs.100/- for General Category and Rs.50/- for SC/ST Category for each additional programme. Candidates opting for NRI Quota have to remit Rs. 5000/- in addition to the cost of application mentioned above.
Non - Keralites can submit application from 28.2.2009 online through www.cusat.nic.in
On-line applications will be considered from Non Keralites for all B.Tech Programmes including Lateral Entry Programmes, 5 Year Integrated M.Sc in Photonics, 5 year LL.B (Hons.), Post Graduate Programmes, M.Tech Programmes (except M.Tech. Marine Bio-Technology), M.A Translation in German & Russian.
For B.Tech Lateral Entry, fee is Rs.750/- + Bank charges for General Category and Rs.375/- + Bank charges for SC/ST Category.
For M.Tech Marine Bio-Technology, the selection of candidates is done by Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) through a National Test. For details visit www.jnu.ac.in
All DDs are to be taken from State Bank of India/State Bank allied Banks drawn in favour of Registrar, CUSAT AND payable at Ernakulam only. Candidate should write his/her Name and Registration Number (obtained at the time of Online Registration) on upper left hand corner of the reverse side of the DD. The DD should be taken on or after the date of CAT 2009 Notification. DD taken after the last date fixed for the submission of application will not be accepted.
Candidates who apply for both B.Tech Programmes and Lateral Entry Programmes through online should remit the required fees specified for each programme. The last date for the submission of online Application as well as date of closure of the sale of OMR application is 4.4.2009 (Saturday).
The Last date for receipt of duly completed confirmation page downloaded from the website along with DD & Passport Size photograph as well as that of OMR applications by 'The Director, IRAA Unit, CUSAT, Kochi-682022', by Speed or Registered Post is 8.4.2009 (Wednesday).
