Your tasks
You will investigate the measurement of Higgs boson properties, and use the results to optimise the design of the ILD detector. You will also take part in tests of prototype Electro-Magnetic calorimeters in particle beams, and consider how this effects the Higgs boson measurements. This will be done within the world-wide CALICE and ILD collaborations.Research environment
The Ecole Polytechnique is a prestigious engineering "Grande Ecole" situated in a spacious campus 15km from the centre of Paris, France. The Laboratoire Leprince-Ringuet carries out research into experimental particle physics and astro physics. The CALICE/ILD group at LLR consists of eight physicists, with interests in the design and testing of electromagnetic and hadronic calorimeters, integration of the complete ILD detector, and simulation studies of the performance of the ILD detector, particulary in photon measurement, tau lepton reconstruction, and Higgs boson studies. The group receives strong support from the electronic, mechanical and computing services of LLR.
Your profile
You should hold a master's degree in Physics or closely related field. Experience of C++ programming is welcomed. You should be willing to undertake international travel to attend conferences, workshops and overseas laboratories.
This 3 year studentship will start in October 2009. Funding will be available.
